Beautiful Holden Captiva 5 Problems
The Holden Captiva was already a nasty mid-sized SUV shitbox built in the former Daewoo factory in South Korea, which was also so absolutely on the nose worldwide that they had to change its name, ultimately, to 'GM Korea'. Not every Holden Captiva owner experiences problems, but if car ownership is a game of Russian roulette in respect of reliability and repair, then Holden Captiva owners are playing it with far too many of the chambers loaded.
Not every Holden Captiva is defective, obviously, but too many Captivas are, and getting it fixed is the next great adventure. I've brought a holden captiva brand new on the 25 jan Last Tuesday night the car wasn't starting I was thinking it was the battery. So call the NRMA and got to car started. I got to work pulled into a parking spot and it stalled.
So call NRMA again, and they said it was the starter motor. So they fixed it or bypassed something so I could get it to holden. Once at holden they told me they would work on the problem.
They told me they fixed the problem and said they would like to keep the car over night, but would be better driving it in traffic. So I took the car 3 hours later on the dash all these lights start flicking.Rock band dlc
So the next day I take it back down to holden. I tell them my confidence is lost in the car and would like a replacement, not a free one. Just a new one. So they tell me the car failed 3 times while testing it. That night the car sounded like a popcorn making machine.
And was leaking petrol or oil out of the exhaust. So the next day I went to take it down to holden, I decided to video the noise it was making and on the drive down the car while driving loses power and comes to a stop in traffic. M y wife and I are fighting over this. I just want the car replaced.Hearne hardwoods
The Holden Captiva seldom or is that 'always'? Since Thanks John for the honest opinion about the Holden Captiva. The other car I have considered, is the Colorado 7. What is your opinion on this car?
I have always supported the local manufacturers and have own and driven only Holdens, I just love them, as I worked for the company for over 25 years, so you can see I am a bit brainwashed. As this will be my last car, I am looking for a vehicle that I can in and out of easilyhence an SUV.Australians bought more than 10, a year but there can be costly problems.
So are used Captivas worth considering? There are plenty of satisfied owners, as the model carved a niche as a sharply priced family SUV with decent specification. It packs a five-star safety rating and roomy interior. It handles well enough and the diesel engine has strong pulling power. On the minus side of the ledger, the Captiva was built by GM Korea, formerly known as Daewoo — hardly a brand Australians associate with engineering excellence. The model arrived in as the Captiva 5 or Captiva 7, the number signifying seating capacity.
Owners of these Captivas have reported numerous problems, with plenty of instances of replaced transmissions, new engines, oil leaks, failed turbos and dodgy electrics, none of them cheap to fix out of warranty.
Launched in Marchthe Series II seven-seat version was slightly longer and taller than the five-seater. All versions were available with front or all-wheel drive and towing capacity was kgkg. The six-speed manual gearbox came solely with the front-drive five-seater. The rest had the seemingly brittle six-speed auto. In SX grade front-drive whether in 5 or 7power came from a 2. A more economical 2. Decent specification for the price had buyers flocking. All scored six airbags, electric park brake, descent control, alloy wheels 17 to inch and fog lamps.
Captiva 7s also had Bluetooth and cruise control. Range-topping LX versions had seven-inch touchscreen, satnav, rear camera, leather trim and USB port. In July Holden improved fuel efficiency on all engines, while also adding rear park assist to Captiva 7 SX and heated front seats and front park assist to the LX.
April brought a new generation six-speed auto transmission. The new Captiva 5 LTZ range topper had leather trim, heated electric seats and inch alloys and the entry-level car was called Captiva 5 LT. If you look at Captivas it gets a bit confusing. Look out for Captiva 7 LS-based Active special editions, with inch rims, leather seats, sunroof and roof-rails. The Captiva seven-seater is still on sale, the five-seater making way for the far more advanced Equinox SUV. With many owner reports of replacement transmissions or engines — sometimes under warranty, sometimes at own vast expense — used buyers must be incredibly diligent.Search your problem.

Holden Captiva Vehicle Review Part 2
Funny story: I'm sitting here in the edit suite cutting the video report that goes with this story. Getting the graphics together.
I'm taking screen grabs of the official Holden Captiva recalls. Another one just pops up - within 24 hours of shooting the report. Like, you're kidding, right? This time for a faulty fuel pump flow control module - and OK, only six Captivas are affected, so not a big deal except if you're one of the owners. It could cause the vehicle to lose power spontaneously thanks to a resulting electrical short She was rear-ended by a truck as a result, with the driver subsequently testifying at a coronial inquest that the VW stopped suddenly without brake lights.
Hundreds of other Volkswagen owners came out of the woodwork as a result, reporting similar power-loss incidents. It's hard to tell which brand - Volkswagen or Holden - is more reprehensible unreliable.
There's quite a few more bricks in this wall, however. See below click on each recall notice to enlarge. It's quite the 'poor quality control' litany. As you can see above, in the past eight years, the Captiva has been recalled for defective brakes, twice. That would be interesting, too. That recall affected 13, vehicles. There were also two fuel feed hose fire risk recalls 16,plus vehicles involved thereand a fuel filler neck fire risk recall. Catching fire is also absolutely unacceptable in a modern vehicle.
Good luck getting everyone out in time.Hiwe had same code replace the actuator good for a month and now its doing it again what else could be throwing the code.
Holden Captiva Problems
Hi Grant, Hopefully you've had this problem fixed by now, if you haven't, did you replace both actuators or just one? As you may have replaced just one and now the other one has failed too? Failing that, if it's throwing the same code it could either be the new actuator is faulty rare but does happenor there's something else going on causing the issue, whether that be wiring problem or ECU problem.
My money would be on the other actuator having failed though. Let me know how you go! Apologies for the really late response haven't been onhere lately. Hino its still go the engine light onno difference in performancethe code is the same bank exhaust as beforeim willing to try the other one as you said unlikely the new one has faultedmaybe ill replace both and see how it goes.

When there is an issue, the vehicle will present the check engine light on the dash, as well as lack power on acceleration. A common mistake that is made when diagnosing this issue, is to replace the camshaft position sensor.
People get confused when they read that the code has to do with a camshaft actuator solenoid, and think the problem is the sensor, resulting in replacement of the wrong part, and wasted money. This is the exact issue that a Captiva brought into the shop had, not even a month ago. The owner had been to another shop and they'd replaced the camshaft position sensor.
Obviously this had not fixed the problem. The other shop had not been able to fix the car, so the owner brought it to me. First, I tried removing the actuator solenoid and cleaning, which sometimes clears out the oil sludge and gunk, and you can then continue driving as normal.Bought the diesel turbo. Problem with smoke comming from under bonnet when it starts cleaning the particle filter.
Told dealer when serviced but never seams to fix the problem. Replaced shock absorbers. Replaced tension pulley. Had oil leaks from pipe to turbo. Always been serviced regularly. Endless money pit. I am working with a group of other captiva owners to SUE Holden for selling a faulty product. I have now had my Holden Haptiva 5 LT for a bit over 2 years now. I have originally bought this vehicle as my knees were not doing well and im a 6 foot 7 bigger bloke so getting into a low car is a no go for me.
I was suprised at the room it had for the driver. My head did not hit the ceiling and my knee did not hot the steering wheel like it did in vehickes like the mitsubishi ASX, Nissan X-trail and even the nissan patrol so needless to say I was happy to find a cat that finally fit and was cheap. Well i can relate to this. I bought my CG Captiva 2. Never missed a service and was always serviced on time. On December 28th after 5.
I have been told that the car needs a replacement engine. Unfortunately this has occurred outside the warranty period of 5 years. After 22 years of car ownership this is the worst car i have experienced.
Do not Buy second hand as most of these cars would have had engine and transmission replacements. This is a nasty piece of work.
